1. Introduction
Welcome to the Quran Tajweed Application — an interactive educational platform that teaches Tajweed rules, verifies your pronunciation during recitation, tests your memorization, and answers your questions about the Quran and Tajweed rules.
The text of the Holy Quran is always displayed in Arabic Uthmani script. The application interface (buttons, menus, and explanations) is translated into over 68 languages, depending on your selection from the language menu at the top of the page.
Note: Quranic verse translations come from reliable sources (Kalimat.dev, local database, or Tafsir al-Jalalayn) — not directly from AI on the Quranic text.
2. Dashboard and Tabs
When you open the application, three main tabs appear:

Tajweed Rules Dashboard
All Tajweed rules grouped by category: الإظهار (Iẓhār), الإدغام (Idghām), الإقلاب (Iqlāb), المدود (Mudūd), القلقلة (Qalqalah), الغنة (Ghunnah), لام الجلالة (Lām al-Jalālah), and others. Click any tile to open the rule's page.
Recitation and Memorization
Smart Recitation (pronunciation correction), Hifz test, and your progress in series.
Smart Assistant
Ask about Tajweed rules or the Holy Quran in your language.
Each rule tile opens a page displaying the verses where the rule appears, with words colored, the reference reciter's audio, and a translation/explanation of the verse according to the display language.
3. Language and Help
Language Selection
At the top left of each page (or top right for right-to-left languages), you will find the Language menu. Choose your language — menu buttons, titles, and explanations will change instantly. The default language is Arabic.
Help Button
Next to the language menu is the "Help" button. This opens the current guide in your language in a new window. If a translation for your language is not yet available, the guide will be displayed in Arabic.
Return to Dashboard
The "Tajweed Rules Dashboard" button at the top right of the page returns you to the main page from any sub-page.
4. Tajweed Rules Pages
Each rule page displays:
Rule Definition in Arabic with translation/transliteration in the display language.
Table or Mushaf highlighting affected words with a distinct color.
Reciter Selection and playback of the verse or page audio.
Word Highlighting during Playback (Karaoke): The highlight moves word by word with the reciter.
Translation Field: From Kalimat.dev or local Tafsir, depending on the selected language.
Audio Playback and Word Selection
Single click on a word: Selects it as a starting point (sky blue highlight).
Single click on another word: Expands the selection to become a range between the two words.
Click within the selected range: Plays audio for the selected range only, with reading tracking (Karaoke).
Click outside the range: Resets the selection to the newly clicked word.
Double click: Selects the word and reads it individually.
Drag (Touch/Mouse Drag): To select a segment with one touch and play it immediately upon release.
"Listen" button: Reads from the selected word to the end of the verse (in verse and page modes) with Karaoke coloring for words.
"Repeat" button: Replays the selected segment in a loop for practice.
Click outside the verse area: Cancels the selection, and the "Listen" button returns to reading the verse from the beginning.
5. Smart Recitation (Pronunciation Correction)
The /r/recite/ page allows you to recite into the microphone with word-by-word verification using a specialized Quranic transcription model (Whisper).
Screen Layout
From top to bottom:
Control Area: Sura selection, range (verse/page/sura), reciter, microphone, and acceptance threshold.
Navigation Bar: Play/pause verse audio, then « » buttons for verses, « › » for words, and for replay.
Tajweed Colors Guide: Appears directly above the verse text for easy reference during recitation.
Verse Text: Colored and highlighted words for the current word.
Starting Recitation
Choose the Sura and range (one verse is recommended for beginners).
The text is displayed automatically when the page is opened or the Sura is changed.
Enter your email (saved once for all pages).
Click "Start Recitation" and allow the browser to access the microphone.
Read the highlighted word; upon correct pronunciation, it turns green, and the highlight moves to the next word.
Important Notes — Smart Recitation
Acceptance Threshold Slider: Now has a fixed width (~110px) to prevent interference with the "Audio" button on mobile screens.
Attempt Limit (3): After three failed attempts on a single word, the application automatically moves to the next word and displays the achieved score below the word in orange — even if it's below the threshold.
Clicking on a word: Click any word in the verse to jump to it and continue recitation from there. Gaps (skipped words) are allowed and receive a zero score in the verse total.
Automatic transition to the next verse: Now requires ≥ 60% accuracy in the verse. Otherwise, move manually with the « » button or retry.
Double click — hear the reciter: Double click on a word to hear the reference reciter's pronunciation of that word only. Double click on a second word in the same verse to hear the segment between them. If word timings are not yet in the database, the server immediately analyzes the reciter's recording (forced alignment), stores it, and then plays the audio.

Word Acceptance Threshold
You can adjust the minimum confidence level (from 30% to 70%) via the slider. A word is accepted if its pronunciation reaches or exceeds this limit. A word below the threshold will have its score displayed in orange to help you improve.
Tajweed Rules Coloring
Enable "Tajweed Rules Coloring" to see hint colors on words (Qalqalah, Ghunnah, Ikhfāʾ, Iẓhār, Lām al-Jalālah…). It can be turned off if you prefer a Mushaf without colors.
Tajweed Rules Evaluation (Optional)
When "Tajweed Rules Evaluation" is enabled, Madd, Ghunnah, and Qalqalah are also acoustically examined — acoustic confidence alone is not sufficient.
Search by Recitation
Click "Search by Recitation" and read a few words; the application will display matching verses. Choose a verse to open it directly.
Word Scores and Clearing
When you return to a previously recited verse, your scores appear on each word. Use "Clear Range Scores" to clear the scores for the verse/page/sura and retry.
6. Hifz Test (Memorization)
The /r/hifz/ page tests your memorization: the verse starts empty, and each word appears when correctly pronounced.
Click "Start" and recite from memory; correct words will appear gradually.
A pronunciation error will trigger an alert tone without revealing the word.
You can manually "Show Word" or "Show Verse" as a hint.
Transition to the next verse is manual unless you complete the entire verse correctly.
Cumulative scores for the Sura and the entire Quran are recorded and linked to your email.
7. Smart Assistant
From the "Smart Assistant" tab or the /r/chatbot/ page, you can ask questions about:
Tajweed rules (What is الإخفاء (Ikhfāʾ)? Where is it found in Sura …?)
Quranic text (How many verses in Juz' Amma? Verses containing the word …)
Search by root, repetition, or spelling/Uthmani script
The assistant uses the Tajweed knowledge base and Quran database with Gemini-2.5-flash to answer in your language. You can:
Expand the question box (drag the bottom edge or type multiple lines with Shift+Enter).
Open new conversations, archive them, delete them, or download them as PDF/Markdown.
Use sample questions for a quick start.
8. Scores and Reports
Enter your email once — it is used for recitation, memorization, and Tajweed tests. Scores are saved in the database, and you can:
View cumulative scores for the Sura and the Quran in the status bar.
Review your previous attempts for each verse.
Request "Send My PDF Report" to receive a detailed report to your email (average, highest, lowest, dates).
9. Audio Settings
From the "Audio" button on the recitation or memorization page:
Microphone: Select the input device if more than one is available.
Speaker: Select the output device (supported in Chrome/Edge; may not work in Safari).
Level Indicator: A green bar showing your voice strength during recitation.
Diagnostics: A technical log for troubleshooting transcription issues (add ?debug=1 to the link).
Tip: If your voice is not heard, check microphone permissions in the browser, try another microphone, and raise your voice — the application amplifies the signal ×4 after noise filtering.
10. Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the application expect words I didn't say (like Basmalah)?
Some reciters used to start with Basmalah before "Alif-Lam-Mim" or "Alif-Lam-Ra" at the beginning of Suras. We fixed this by detecting the opening and realigning. If the problem persists, use diagnostics or retry after three failed attempts, the application will automatically move on.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes — Chrome on Android and Safari on iOS. You might need an initial tap to activate audio (browser policies).
Is my data private?
Scores are linked to your email and isolated between users. Audio recordings are not shared with third parties — they are processed on the server for verification only.
Where do verse translations come from?
Kalimat.dev, local database, or Tafsir al-Jalalayn translated via Gemini for unsupported languages — not direct AI translation of Quranic text.
